KARACHI - Sindh government withdraws the notification within 48 hours of ordering termination of over 12,000 municipal workers.
The decision flared protests across the province by the employees of the local government department.
Earlier, the provincial government terminated over 12,000 employees - contractual and adhoc-based – of KMC through a notification on late Tuesday. According to the notification, the employees were terminated with immediate effect and without any prior notice. Following the notification, KMC workers union alliance announced to stage protest against the decision.
Employee unions and affected employees held a protest demonstration against the government at Civic Centre, Karachi here on Thursday. Hundreds of protestors carrying placards and banners chanted slogans against the government and demanded immediate withdrawal of the notification.
They also locked all the entrance points of the KMC building and did not allow any of the officials to enter the building. All the official services stayed suspended during the protest and many officers returned home as they failed to reach their offices in the KMC, Civic Centre building.
