Addressing on the occasion, Bokhari said the media didn’t play its due part for the rooting out the curse. Mehnaz urged people to shun offering alms to beggars so that the illegal business could be stopped.
The DCO said more than 70,000 beggars roaming across the city while only 2 per cent were the less privileged. He stressed the need for concerted efforts to put an end to the begging business. The DCO also said a beggar earns up to from Rs8,000 daily.
Farooq said that the leaders by begging from other countries have made the whole nation beggars. He said that the nation must follow the Zakat system to get rid of begging. Absar Abdul Ali also spoke the occasion.
NPT speech contest
The Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust (NPT) and Pakistan Movement Workers Trust jointly organised a speech competition among the college and university students.
The topic of the competition was ‘Austerity is a National Asset’. In the contest, former justice Munir Ahmad Mughal highlighted importance of austerity in the history of nations that played a basic role in national progress. Dr Parveen Khan said the youth was the true stake-holder and would lead the nation towards progress.
In the competition, Yasir Rasheed from Punjab University got first prize, Anam Shahzadi from Queen Mary College stood second and Umar Daraz from Punjab University remained third. Ataul Mustafa from Samanabad Institute of Commerce and Zeenat Butt from Baghbanpura Government College got special prizes.
The students of Unique Public School Walton Road on Saturday visited the Aiwan-e-Karkunan-e-Tehreek-e-Pakistan to attend the NPT’s Aaghi programme.
They also saw Pakistan Movement Gallery on the occasion. The heads of the institutions, in their lectures, lauded the NPT’s role in disseminating the Two-Nation Theory to the new generation.
