LAHORE - In a bid to counter the subversive drone action, which seemingly torpedoed talks with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the PTI has announced to move to block Nato supplies through Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and introduce resolutions in the National, Sindh and Punjab assemblies for this purpose.
Addressing a press of after chairing his party’s core committee meeting on Saturday, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan invited all the political forces to participate in an all parties conference (APC) called by them to support their blockade decision.
“We will block the Nato supply line even at the cost of (our) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government as we have already warned to block the route if the US drones sabotaged the talks with TTP,” Imran averred. He said TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud’s killing on a day when the federal government was going to start the dialogue with TTP leadership with the backing of APC signatories on the issue, was a direct action to sabotage the peace efforts.
Imran said that PTI would submit resolutions in all provincial assemblies and the national assembly to stop Nato supplies. The PTI core committee has decided to summon KPK Assembly session for adopting a resolution for the blockade, he said. “I will personally submit a resolution for blocking the Nato supply line in national assembly to end the sufferings of people of tribal areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
The PTI chief said, “We will take this action following the Peshawar High Court’s May, 2013 decision which declared US drone attacks unlawful and directed the Pakistan government to stop any kind of assistance to the US for launching drone attacks.” He said that the provincial organisations of the PTI would come on streets to mobilise the masses for supporting his party’s decision to block Nato supply line.
Suspecting a foreign conspiracy in three recent terror attacks in KPK, Imran asked the federal government to probe into the matter along this line, as the TTP had denied their involvement and also because these acts of terrorism became a cause of delay in talks’ initiation.
“We have been labelled as Taliban supporters as we always advocated for the dialogue with militants. The people of Pakistan should rise against the powers which don’t want peace in our region for their ulterior motives and because of whom the country is facing continuous bloodshed for the last nine years.”
PTI chairman said that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nasir called him the other day and conveyed government’s position over the latest drone attack and he appreciated Nasir’s efforts for the peace talks. Imran said he had expressed his concern about the drone attacks during the APC, and stopping of these strikes were the main condition from the Taliban for initiating dialogue.
