PPP starts obliging MQM

KARACHI - Pakistan Peoples Party has started obliging its old coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movement by acknowledging their various demands just before the upcoming local bodies’ election.
Sindh government will likely to change the local government secretary on MQM demand.
According to the sources, MQM delegation put various demands including the removal of local government secretary and various other administrative posts during the meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House on Thursday night.
On the other side, MQM has opposed the Local Bodies Act 2013 and moved to the Supreme Court. It urged the judiciary to declare the Act void and null. It also showed deep concerns on the delimitation drive in the urban region of Sindh, including Karachi and Hyderabad. Prevailing consultation between the two parties would reduce the position of MQM as a strong opposition in the provincial assembly.
Sources privy to the matter revealed the MQM will not make any electoral alliance with the former coalition partners and have decided to extend their support to the provincial ruling party. Both the parties had developed an understanding on various issues before the LG polls.
PPP assured the MQM leadership that suggestions of MQM will be considered for a smooth process of democracy. The PPP leadership had also assured the MQM that officers, at all administrative posts in Karachi and Hyderabad, would be appointed with proper consultation of MQM.
Source further said the changing of city administrator was on the agenda of recent talk between the PPP and MQM. Both the parties are also in consultation about the upcoming LG polls and decided to give space to each other as per the mandate of the parties.
