KARACHI - The gulf in the relations between the ruling PML-N and Sindhi nationalist parties has been emerged, diminishing the chances of electoral alliance between them in the upcoming local bodies’ polls in the province.
The Sindhi nationalist parties are not happy with the steps of the PML-N visible soft corner towards the MQM in Sindh.
According to the chat with the insiders from both sides, it is hinted that there are very little chances of indulging the nationalists in alliance against the PPP in upcoming LB polls.
The Sindhi nationalist leaders have openly opposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Federal Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan over their alleged closeness with the MQM.
Besides, the 10-party opposition alliance led by the PML-N and PML-F with the nationalist groups in the May 11 general elections had also proved a failed experience as they did not stand on the commitment and fielded candidates against each other.
When contacted, senior leader of nationalist group - the Qaumi Awami Tehreek – categorically said the PML-N government in the centre had not fulfilled the promises it made during the elections.
Criticising the PML-N government, he further said the PML-N and the PML-F did not honor the commitments made during the electoral alliance in last general elections. He alleged that both the ruling parties in the federal government have fielded their candidates against the other parties.
He confirmed that his party will contact the other nationalist and likeminded groups to make alliance in the next local bodies’ elections.
He categorically said the nationalists groups of Sindh would not trust on the present ruling alliance for making an electoral alliance for local government elections until they provide a commitment in writing on certain issues of Sindh.
It may be noted that nationalist leader and chief of Sindh Tarraqi Pasand Party has recently came down hard against the PML-N government. He threatened to block the entry of Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in Sindh if he failed in maintaining the law and order and shake hands with the MQM in Karachi.
When contacted, a senior leader of the STPP confirmed that his party’s chief still stands on his commitment.
Sources said the PML-N Sindh leaders have contacted the nationalist parties but they received lukewarm response in this regard.
However, the PML-N and the PML-F leaders while during their informal chat with The Nation were confident that they will hold talks with the nationalist groups to sit on common points to field joint candidates in the electoral alliance in the local bodies’ elections in Sindh.
However, witnessing the failed experience of electoral alliance in the last general elections, it seemed that Sindhi nationalists and PML-N and PML-F will not likely to go into an alliance in the local bodies elections.
