KARACHI - Diwali splattered colours across the country on Saturday as Hindus buckled up. To celebrate the festival, Hindus light earthen lamps in a practice that symbolises the lighting of such lamps by the people of Ayodhaya on the occasion of Lord Rama`s return to his capital. At Hindu temples in city, special gatherings were held to mark the occasion. The main congregation was held at the Swami Narayan Temple, opposite the old KMC Building on M A Jinnah Road in the evening.
Jumo Maheshwari told The Nation that the religious scholars delivered sermons preaching love and peace as prescribed by Lord Rama, besides special prayers offered fort the brotherhood among the Pakistanis and prosperity of the country. Food was also distributed among the audience and in various Hindu localities.
Meanwhile, a grand gathering of Diwali festival is organised by the Hindu Paenchiat to be held today on Sunday evening in city, which to be attended by the Hindu community people from all over the province.
Various leaders greeted Hindus on the event. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended Diwali greetings, reiterating his party’s commitment to protect minorities in the country without any discrimination.
In his message, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said: “Diwali is celebrated as triumph of good over evil and PPP had always been in struggle against every kind of evil, in any form or manifestation. Every citizen of Pakistan has equal rights to celebrate and observe his or her religious feasts without any fear.” Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said he rejoices in extending Happy Diwali to all the Hindu brothers and sisters and appealed them to hold special prayers on the occasion for peace and prosperity of Pakistan and interfaith harmony all over the world.
He also instructed the PPP Minority Wing leaders to celebrate and share the festivities with the have-nots who require more attention and care.
