MULTAN: The Pakistan Ulema Council has urged the government to set the agenda of dialogue with Taliban and inform the nation about it.
The demand was made at the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Conference held here on Sunday. It was presided over by Hafiz Allama Mohammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, the chairman of the PUC.
Various leaders who attended the conference demanded that the dialogue process should be started without delay and the talks should be initiated through tribal elders and notables.
They asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to inform the nation about his recent visit to Washington and devise a policy for ending US drone strikes which violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The conference condemned violation of the Line of Control by India and said that Pakistan should raise the issue at the United Nations.
Allama Ashrafi termed the PUC conference a step towards national unity and harmony.
He said the government’s offer to Taliban for talks was a positive development.
All political and religious parties should be taken into confidence on the issue, he added.
“The public should know under what conditions these negotiations are to take place,” he said.
Prominent among those who attended the conference are: Sahibzada Zahid Mehmood Qasmi, Secretary General of the PUC; Shafqat Bhutta of Shia Azadari Council; Maulana Abbas Gardezi of Shia Ulema Council; Hafiz Mohammad Zaffar Qureshi of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan; Maulana Abdul Haq of the Wifaqul Madaris Al-Arabia; Maulana Mehboobur Rehman of International Khatm-i-Nabuwat Movement; Javed Hashmi of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf; Malik Amir Dogar and Nafees Ahmad Ansari of PPP; Hassan Muawiyah of National Seraiki Party; Punjab minister Chaudhry Abdul Waheed; MNA Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar of the PML-N, Maulana Hafiz Mohammad Amjad; Maulana Anwarul Haq Mujahid and Maulana Mohammad Ammar Baloch.
