Mystery Gases Spew in the Mud Island, Island Formed after Quake

Mystery gases are being spewed in the mud island that formed off the coast of Gwadar after Tuesday's 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Balochistan.
The deputy commissioner of Gwadar, Tufail Baloch, who travelled by boat to the island, said that water bubbled along the edges of the island appeared to be gas discharge.
He also said that the area smelled of gas that caused a flash when people lit cigarettes. According to the Director General of the National Institute of Oceanography, Dr. Ali Rashid Tabrez, the sea from Gwadar to Ormara had a lot of frozen methane gas below the sea bed and bubbles in the water could be commonly seen, which were caused by methane gas escaping from fissures.
But, a geophysicist with the US Geological Survey isn't so sure, as he explains that the methane in this region is deeper and offshore and it is not the most likely scenario.
According to him, the bubbles in the sea could be seen due to carbon dioxide fluid in the ground.
Navy geologist Mohammed Danish said, "The mud island was about 18 meters high, 30 meters wide and 76 meters long, making it a little wider than a tennis court and slightly shorter than a football field".
