Peshawarities slam hike in power, POL prices

PESHAWAR - Rejecting the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products and electricity, the residents of Peshawar have demanded the government to withdraw its decision regarding the prices of petroleum products.
Talking to The Nation, President of local transport association Khan Zaman Afridi said that the local transport Association strongly denounced these anti-masses policies of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) government.
He said that increasing the prices of petroleum prices would affect the poor segment of society as this will jack up prices of essential commodities to unprecedented level. He said that transport association would hold a strong protest against federal government to condemn this decision. He maintained that people were expecting changes and relief for the poverty-stricken people of the country but unfortunately, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) government has surpassed Pakistan People’s Party government in its anti-masses policies. He said that on one hand the poor people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are confronted with brutal incidents of terrorism while on the other hand the federal government has targeted the masses through inflation and price hike of daily use edible commodities.
Another resident of Peshawar Fayaz Khan said that people don’t know that how Nawaz Sharif will improve the life standard of the common people as from the very beginning he has started targeting the masse.
He said that the upper class of the society have no concern with inflation as they can earn much to face the situation while the downtrodden class always suffer.
He mentioned that government was failed to provide protection to the lives and property of the people. He said that earlier to this Punjab government increased the prices of flour bags and later they started increasing the prices of petroleum products and electricity.
Another resident of Peshawar Amanullah Mohmand told this scribe that Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) government is not sincere with the poor people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and his team of ministers always are suggesting him to impose strict economic policies and imposition of new taxes on masses.
He said that PML-N government was only restricted to Punjab, therefore, it did not give any attention to militancy-affected province. He maintained that if the rulers were sincere with this nation then they would have reduced their expenses and luxuries.
On the other hand, Awami National Party Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter has also rejected the recent hike in petroleum products and moved a resolution against increase in the prices of petroleum and electricity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
The resolution has been moved by Awami National Party Parliamentary leader Sardar Hussain Babak and MPA Syed Jafar Shah.
The resolution stated that the incumbent government was failed to provide any relief to the poor people of the country and repeated increase in the prices of petroleum and electricity has badly affected the masses.
They demanded the government to review the decisions to provide relief to terrorism and poverty-hit people of the country.
