Pakistan Fashion Woos Global Audience


Pakistan fashion industry has certainly come of age. This is one sector that has shown huge growth in the last five years. Nearly a thousand buyers and businessmen from 48 countries are attending EXPO Pakistan, which also showcased the blooming fashion industry. A two-day fashion event has also been organised on the sidelines of EXPO Pakistan, which began on Thursday. The event is being held under the aegis of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.

On the first day (Thursday) a grand show was held at the Pearl Continental Hotel to present the creations of top fashion designers of the country. The show choreographed by Hassan Shehryar Yasin (HSY) was a treat to watch. It was not just fun but meant serious business as buyers from different countries including Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Poland, USA, UAE, Netherlands, Morocco, UAE, Bahrain and Azerbaijan took keen interest in Pakistan designers creations.
The designers who showcased on the first day were Rizwan Beyg, Faiza Samee, Tapu Javeri, Farnaz Mustafa, Sania Maskatia, PIFD, Zaheer Abbas and Sana Safinaz. All the designers presented their best collections and the show was such a success that it spread the message across the globe that Pakistani fashion resonates well with international trends.
The work of the designers was no doubt a treat to watch and will be the major topic of talk on social media and in the fashion industry.
The show began with a male model and female model coming on the ramp on a bicycle showcasing Rizwan Beyg’s ‘Rang collection’. It is an honour for the fashion industry that TDAP selected the theme of truck art for EXPO Pakistan 2014 because it is an indigenous for of art created in Pakistan.
Rizwan Beyg is a pioneer of ethical fashion practice. He has used the inspiration of truck art in his remarkable creations. He has used the ethnic element to convert it into chic and global. All the designers showcasing their collections had worked keeping in mind international audiences. They used the richness of our cultural heritage fusing it contemporary global fashion trends.
Over last eight years, EXPO Pakistan has developed into a reputable international event where Pakistani exhibitors showcase their products to international buyers.
Most of the buyers represent large buying houses and reputable foreign brands. This fair is a one stop forum for the foreign buyers to view full range of Pakistan export products and develop long term business relations for enhancing exports from Pakistan.

RIZWAN BEYG:

Working with genuine crafts people of Sindh from small towns the truck art of Pakistan has been transferred from vehicles to garments of high fashion. The aim being to use Pakistan’s artistry into a globally acknowledged leitmotif of its indigenous art forms, a philosophy of "rural to the runway.”

FAIZA SAMEE:

Inspired by the kaleidoscopic handicrafts of nomadic tribes who live and travel in the shadows of the Himalayas and Hindu Kush mountains bordering Pakistan. Their eclectic art and aesthetic informed the print designs in this collection. The contemporary silhouettes are inspired by both east and west. 

TAPU JAVERI:

In 2011, he had an exhibition called ‘KaraChakra’ that was inspired by pop culture and the old buildings of Karachi. The ‘Tapulicious’ line is an evolution of those photo-manipulations, taking inspiration from the streets, but creating wearable art. 

FARNAZ MUSTAFA:

Farnazs latest collection combines the best of both worlds. The concept aspires to combine the majestic look of the Nawabi era with elements of modernity, while maintaining a form of elegant sophistication. Her line includes exquisite sarees, intricately worked jackets, antique embellishments on net.

SANIA MASKATIYA:

A graduate of the prestigious Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi, Pakistan with a coveted degree in textile design, Sania Maskatiya has been designing since 2007. Only a year after graduating, under the label ‘Chamak’, Sania’s signature aesthetic has come to be regarded as a balance between elegance, comfort and practicality.
The Sania Maskatiya design house uses only pure fabrics cut and draped in a range of silhouettes creating versatile looks across all their fashion lines. 

PIFD:

The students of PIFD showcased the future fashion of Pakistan.  PIFD showcased selected work of 2013 graduating batch. The collection included pieces from the department of  Fashion Design, Jewellery Design & Gemmological Sciences and Leather Footwear & Accessories.

Zaheer Abbas:

He presented his SS’2013 Pret a porter collection titled “La Base” which emphasizes on basic silhouettes without using any form of embellishment and print. Based in pure cotton silk, this collection showcases a monochromatic palate, artistically blended with off white.

Sana Safinaz:

The most stunning collection presentation was by Sana Safinaz. This collection exemplifies sheer poise, sophistication of 1940s with the vitality of a modern day woman.
The maturity and elegance seen in the diversification of the collection manifest a refined confidence in an Eclectic aura that has never been seen before.
Their vision for this collection gives a whole new sense, heightens new aesthetics in craftmanship beyond even bridal couture.
